Secret Dark Desires: Age Gap Romance (Secrets Series, Book 6 - Paperback)
The thrill of an amusement park ride.
The hot older man sitting next to me on the Haunted Mansion ride.
His hand between my legs while I try not to scream out in ecstasy…
Most people think I’m conservative with a journalism degree. If they only knew. Naughty experiences are a must if you want to live life to the fullest. Getting caught in public doing something dirty is what it’s all about. This year, we plan our yearly girl trip around amusement parks. But this trip is turning out to be one of the worst and could be my very last … because I disappear off the face of the earth and no one can find me.
Victor is a handsome fifty-two-year-old male with a hot body. He catches my eye. The longer I study him, the more I crave his hands all over me. I pick a dark amusement park ride, and he provides the sensual thrills. He is a smooth talker, and it really turns me on.
Everything is going as planned until my obsession with the taboo changes into something dark and life-threatening. Now, I regret my life choices … because the results may very well lead to my death.

I am a predator. And he is my prey. I can smell him even though he’s yards away.
My body has been humming all day, wanting, hungering for some man, fuck, any man.
Now that I’ve laid eyes on him, I’m vibrating from head to toe.
Older, with salt sprinkled into dark brown curls on his head. So unassuming with his wide smile and the way he laughs loud enough that everyone around him takes notice. He’s tall and has muscular calves skintight over his veins.
It’s like I’ve known him my entire life.
The way my body feels when I lay eyes on him is electric.
And he’s so…unsuspecting. Makes me like him even more.
I bet women have fought over him his whole life and he’s never even realized it. I’ve watched him talking with his sons; he must be a good enough dad to keep his adolescents engaged. A fun dad.
Without a wedding ring.
His body is perfect. Underneath his t-shirt I can make out the outline of his pectorals and abs. He has calves like a cyclist and veins running through his forearms. From time to time, he scratches his chin, a layer of stubble covering his face.
I’d love to feel it between my legs.
“Em, you good?”
I glance at my friend, Joy. She’s always watching me like a hawk these days. “Yeah, I’m good.”
“You just got that far away look in your eye for a second.”
I smile. She’s right. I am terribly far away even though I’m standing right beside her.
I’ve been searching for him without knowing what he looks like, like an animal sniffing out their prey.
Amidst the sea of fathers, grandfathers, and frat bros, I found him.
A line at a theme park is probably an unusual place for most people to be on the prowl for a man. Especially one for the Haunted Manor. People in this line are shaking in their boots, scared of what terror awaits them once they reach the front of the line.
I’m not like most people, though. I’ve been in this position before. Although last time, I was the prey.
Now it’s my turn.
I’m practically salivating.
My friends don’t notice I’m not participating in the conversation. That happens a lot these days. Sometimes I just have nothing to say. Other times, I go elsewhere in my mind.
Now, though, I’m zeroing in on my victim.
For the briefest moment, the man glances back through the line. I stand up straighter, hoping to catch his eye. Make him linger on me. Want me.
I glimpse his eyes, searingly blue.
Just like…
I shake the thought away. We don’t give him space in our mind, Em. We don’t’ let him in control anymore. These are things my therapist has said that I try to repeat to myself. They sound much nicer and easier to put into practice when she says them.
When it’s just me, myself, and I, it feels close to impossible.
“We’re almost there!” Ally chirps in my ear, grabbing me by the shoulder and rubbing up and down. She must think that she’s somehow being comforting.
It takes all my energy not to rip myself out of her grasp and tell her not to touch me like that.
A year later and I’m still unable to accept touch like a normal person.
Jokes on me, though. I’m not a normal person. Never will be again after what happened.
The line starts to move. It’s clear we’re going to be in the next group of riders, so my friends all start organizing who will sit with who.
“I’ll sit with Emily. Or –” Ally stops and looks at me. “Who do you want to sit with you, Em?”
I scan my friend’s faces, then eye the man again. He has two sons. They’re too old to want to sit with their dad. And they look like they’re in good spirits. Don’t need to be separated because of brotherly feud or tension.
He’ll be riding alone.
So I’ll be riding alone.
“You all pair up. I’ll be fine.”
The four of them exchange glances. Who’s going to tell her?
Before they can object, I smile. “I’ll be fine.” Then, back to my target. Don’t want to miss my opportunity. The longer I look, the more beautiful he gets.
The man runs a hand back through his curls and I nearly stop breathing. Big hands, thick fingers, veins popping out and running down his forearms.
Fuck, I want him.
The person managing the line starts to count us off. The magic number is twenty and we make it in by the skin of our teeth.
I bolt away from my friends, not bothering to say a “goodbye” and follow the man to the very last car. If I don’t escape, I know they won’t let me.
I follow the curly haired man to the back of the ride, sizing him up in every way possible.
I sound like a monster. Maybe I am.
But I was made this way. I don’t know how else to be.
The man’s two sons climb into a car and he continues to the next open one. He doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going to be his seat mate. He should be grateful. How many men his age can claim to be hunted by a much younger blonde?
I quicken my pace as the rest of the riders settle and find him in the very last car.
The man looks up at me. There’s that winning smile. But something else too.
His eyes.
Blue. Clear. Glacial.
I’ve only seen eyes like this once before.
Victor’s eyes.
This man isn’t Victor though. Not in any way shape or form.
Time stops as I stare at him.
I’ve become the thing I hate. A hunter. A predator. A monster.
Then, the deep dark part of me talks. The one I can’t seem to control no matter how much time passes. He’s yours. Take him.
Just as the man’s mouth begins to form words, I speak: “Is this seat taken?”
“No,” he says, just as affably as I’d expect. “It’s yours.”
I finally smile back. I’m about to give him the ride of his fucking life.
